Gibson Melody Maker Special plays a baked maple fingerboard. The wood is baking in a special oven makes the wood water-resistant, hard and stable (perfect for fingerboards), with snap and attack alike to ebony but with a more classical appearance.

This Gibson Melody Maker Special has a rich, comfortable, fast-action neck. While you're chording down low or soloing up high, Gibson's unique '60s Slim Taper ever feels just right. Among slick baked maple fingerboard, this guitar is a strong, mean rock machine. The Melody Maker Special wears a beautiful nitrocellulose lacquer finish. And the Nitro finishes standard back in the '60s and '70s are significantly lighter than today's polyurethane finishes, enabling the guitar to breathe. This Nitro finishes not only gives a look vintage wonderful but also they improve the instrument's tonal qualities.
